The intention of every trainer is to help the trainee gain the most from the training, but you need to use specific techniques to do so.
To learn new skills in training others, participate in the Train the Trainer Training Course from pdtraining delivered in Dallas, Los Angeles and other cities in the U.S.
When people attend a training session, they are already willing to learn. As a trainer, you need to use that willingness to help them gain the maximum knowledge so that they are able to use it in their life to achieve growth. Some of the methods that give excellent results when used during the training are:
- Asking questions
- Allowing time to learn
- Using a variety of ways to teach
- Using humor
- Using repetition
- Providing personal attention and care
- Providing feedback
From the beginning of a training session, you need to build a semi-formal atmosphere. It encourages people to ask questions and to participate more freely. In a formal setting, shy or introverted people may not feel comfortable initiating communication or answering questions. To create a semi-formal environment, you may tell a joke, laugh at yourself, or share a personal anecdote. As you open up before the trainees, they will take a cue from you and open up to you and others.
Trainees come to a training session to learn a skill, but when they get more than what they have bargained for, then they are genuinely impressed by the quality of training. To deliver such training, you need to:
- Know what type of training to provide
- Build a perfect learning atmosphere
- Adopt ways for the retention of learning
- Use new and effective ways of teaching
- Have discussions and group activities
To achieve these goals, you need to involve the trainees in the learning process, identify their needs and fulfill them, encourage the generation of ideas, appreciate efforts and reward them, tell the trainees how the learning can improve their work and/or life, and ensure that they are learning what is being taught. To coordinate and remember to include each technique, you may plan your training session accordingly. It will help you to concentrate on the current dynamics in the training class and adjust your training accordingly.
When planning, make sure that you have the basic information about the trainees such as their age group, educational background, job profile, and expectations from the training. It will help you to plan your training properly and to adjust your communications during training.
Before the training, make sure that you have the training materials, your notes, any supplies that you need, a bottle or glass of water, flip chart (if required), and any certificates or materials to be given to the participants. Keep these organized and handy. If there is a presentation to be given, make sure that the cords and electronic equipment are ready before the start of the training.
A successful training session is one that is well-planned and well-executed, where the trainees learn not only from the content that is being taught, but also from how the trainer is providing the training.
